Car window replacement: an ultimate solution to those broken panes

If you have met an accident or a roll over and broken your car window in the recent past, then the first thing you would like to do is get it repaired. Today, technology has become so advanced that even a long crack can be healed in such a way that no one will be able to guess that something had ever gone wrong with the pane. But sometimes, you may need to consider car window replacement because the damage done to the car window is beyond repair or it has been repaired many times.

Circumstances which may call for a car window replacement are:

Placement of the damage - If the chip or crack is located in the line of vision of the driver, then it will not be a good idea to get it repaired. Although it is possible to match the light reflection capability of the glass with the help of latest techniques to a huge extent, 100% results are never obtained. The damage becomes more visible during a sunny day and the driver may find difficulty in driving the car.

Size of the damage - Although latest techniques have made it possible to repair a crack that is as much as three fourth of the total size of the glass, it is not always a good idea to use this technique. After all, your car window will protect you in case of a rollover accident or in airbag deployment, and thus, car window replacement will be the only safe and secure alternative to provide safety features to your vehicle.

Distance of the damage from the edge: In most cases, damages located less than 3 inches from the edge has to be fixed through car window replacement only.

If you are not sure about whether your car needs a glass repair or a replacement, you can contact a professional advisor and check whether the damage can be repaired efficiently or not. Sometimes, the cost of repair of the car glass may be much closer to the cost of a new glass. In that case, you should undoubtedly choose a replacement because repair can never be better than a car window replacement.

If you have decided to get your car window replacement, you must know that it can be done easily by you, without any professional help. The tools needed for this are vacuum, tarp and some hand tools.

·                     First of all, you have to safely remove the panel of the car door and peel the plastic sheet beneath the panel.

·                     Remove the pieces of old glasses with the help of vacuum cleaner and gloves.

·                     Fit in the new car window with the help of a 2 inches wide slot present on the door panel’s top. In this process, you will have to unbolt some of the door panel bolts so that more space is available to fit in the glass.

·                     Replace the weather stripping and bracket bolts on the door panel and make sure that the car glass is aligned properly.

·                     Get the panel back aligned to the window crank level and make sure that it is properly fit.

Doing car window replacement on your own can be quite a tricky task. It is highly recommended to get it done with professional help, unless you have enough experience or you have an experienced person sitting by your side.
